How should you effectively sanitise your smartphone?

Your smartphone travels everywhere with you, picking up the germs of everything

you touch and transferring them to other people. Think about it; although you may

wash your hands, you immediately touch your phone and therefore transfer all the

germs straight back onto your fingers.

Approximately 92% of phones tested at the London School of Hygiene were found to have bacteria on them.

We’ve compiled a quick list of top tips when it comes to keeping your phone clean.

Firstly, it is important to make a habit of wiping down your phone. This seems obvious but it’s something that is easy to forget and requires repeating many times throughout the day. You can buy specific wipes for phones but it’s easy to buy pre-moistened anti-bacterial wipes. Furthermore, you can also buy full size screen cleaning and microfiber kits for home use.

It is easy to make your own screen cleaning solution, using just a small spray bottle, 8 ounces of 70% rubbing alcohol and 8 ounces of distilled water (not tap water – this may leave a residue). Another mixture that works is simply white vinegar and distilled water, an organic recipe if you can stand the smell.

Secondly, Q-tips and toothpicks are an absolute godsend when it comes to getting into all the little crevices. You’d be amazed at what you can get out of the cracks in your smartphone. Be careful not to scratch anything though!

Furthermore, it is possible to buy a UV sanitiser to sanitize your device with light, but these devices can be quite hit and miss. Perhaps not worth it unless you’re a real germaphobe.

Another important aspect that is easily forgotten is that you must wipe down your earphones as well. This can be done with any soft cloth dampened with a bit of dish soap and water. Headphones are a bit more difficult – if you have silicon covers, you should remove those and clean them separately with a toothbrush. Other than that, we recommend a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and thoroughly cleaning them before allowing them to dry before you use them again.

Hopefully this article gives you a clearer idea of how to keep your smart devices clean and hygienic.
